CUT THE HEAD; BET THE KING LIVE ON

Cut The Head; Bet The King Live On (close-up video), Valerie Caesar, 2026.

This illustration could probably be permanently called “Work In Progress” — or “Sourdough Starter,” or “The Wolf You Feed,” or any other phrase that signifies something that is infinitely sustained and thus infinitely grows. As it stands, I dig its current title (Cut The Head; Bet The King Live On), derived from the lyrics of the Pink Siifu song it’s paired with, and which also speaks to something that can’t and won’t die.

For the sustained life of this piece, I mine my own works to isolate specific spot illustrations, and I also have created some just to populate this image. They’re ordinary objects that carry deep personal history and meaning for me, and the infinite expansion of this illustration represents my continued aliveness, growth and connection to the material world.

See both previous incarnations of this piece, (Alive Herbals & Choose Your Fighter), and stay connected as it continues to thrive.
